• Western University of Health Sciences is committed to protecting its employees, students, and volunteers from any form of reprisal when reporting possible occurrences of research misconduct, noncompliance with policies and procedures, or practices that compromise human safety at any facility owned or operated by Western University (WesternU).

    This assurance of protection is a cornerstone of our reporting process, ensuring your safety and confidence in bringing forward any concerns.

    Any employee, student or volunteer may report concerns about research integrity at WesternU. Anyone wishing to report a concern regarding research misconduct, noncompliance, or concern for human safety in research or teaching facilities may do so anonymously by using the Report button on the Office of Research Regulatory Affairs (ORRA) website or by submitting a report through campus email to the Senior Vice President of Research and Biotechnology.

    If the person filing the complaint identifies himself, protection of their identity will be maintained to the extent possible within the legal needs of the law and the investigation. Reports may be made without fear of reprisal. WesternU will not tolerate any reprisal against an individual who has come forward with concerns or allegations of wrongdoing about research integrity, noncompliance, or safety concerns. Every complaint shall be taken seriously, and an immediate inquiry into the allegation will follow the report.

    Examples of reportable events include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, distortion, or other serious deviation from accepted practices in proposing, conducting, and reporting research.
    • Misappropriation of the work of others.
    • Failure to follow requirements for protecting human or animal subjects or the public.
    • Misappropriation of the University’s and sponsors’ property or resources.
    • Intentional breach of law, University’s rules, or sponsors’ regulations
    • Failure to follow financial disclosure disqualification regulations as required under WesternU Conflict of Interest policies.
    • Conduct of research activities or protocol modifications without prior research committee approval.
    • Continuing research-related activities beyond the protocol expiration date.
    • Conduct of research-related activities by people not listed on a protocol for that activity.
    • Continuing noncompliance.
